Overview
At Longhorn Life Sciences I work on wireless RF sensor systems designed for medical diagnostics — sensors that measure physiological signals through their effect on RF behavior rather than through direct electrical contact.
My role
I own vector network analyzer (VNA) calibration and data acquisition for sensor characterization: setting up measurement chains that can trust their own numbers, then capturing the S-parameter data that tells us how a sensor responds to what it’s sensing. I also collaborate on the RF telemetry link that streams sensor data in real time — the difference between a lab curiosity and a usable medical device.
What I’m learning
RF work is unforgiving: a bad calibration or a stray reflection quietly corrupts everything downstream. This role has taught me to treat the measurement system itself as part of the engineering problem — a mindset that carries directly into my MRI research.
